Lecture today: We'll cover all of our upcoming lab productions, assignments, and then review audio and lighting for this week's quiz.

This week in lab:

Studio 7 Perspectives - (For weeks 7 & 8) Bring in a topic and 5 questions. You'll submit these to the Canvas assignment as well. This production spans 2 weeks- so your topic, while due this week might not be produced until next week. The script should give you an idea of the program. You can think of it as a little like "Real Time with Bill Maher, in that there's a host and two guests. In terms of audio, there will be an unseen announcer. There are three graded components:

  • Topic & 5 questions - 4 points
  • Production duties (excluding audio) - 8 points
  • Audio engineering duties - 8 points

Pitch Demonstration Videos - You'll need to do this quickly to save time. These will span two weeks, and one lab only gets to produce one set, due to IU Wellness Day. In a single lab session you could produce one or two. How many you produce is up to your lab and the complexities of the project. The pre-production is worth 6 points and includes:

  • Program proposal (2 points)
  • Treatment or script (2 points)
  • Storyboarded key shots & Floor Plan (2 points)

The production itself will be carried out during week 10 & 11 and is worth 10 points (graded as a group). Individually everyone will submit a crtique, which is worth 4 points. (20 points total)

Next week in Lab (week 8):

Continue with 2nd round of Studio 7 Perspectives and Pitch Dramatic/Comedic Scenes. This project will test your blocking and directing abilities- and give you a chance to do something serious or light and fun. This exercise has both indivually graded and group components and is worth 30 points:

  • 3Proposal and pitch - 5 points, individually graded
  • Preproduction work and packet - 10 points, graded as a group project
  • Production - 10 points, graded as a group
  • Critique - 5 points, indivdually graded

Week 9 - Produce IU News Update (March 16-19) You'll need to come up with a 30-second script, and 2 graphics. This production is worth 15 points. We'll go through this next week in lecture, but this exercsie is worth 15 points:

  • 30-second copy - 5 points
  • OTS and location graphics - 5 points
  • Production duties - 5 points

Week 10 & 11 - Produce Demonstration Videos (this spans 2 weeks and the 1st week has a Wellness Day) You'll pitch Final Projects during Week 11.

Week 12 - Produce Dramatic/Comedic Scenes

Week 13 - Produce Performance Project - We need talent! There will only be one performer or small group for each lab session. This could be a musician (a solo or duo is suggested- no bands, as they are too complicated to mic.), a monologue, a comedian, or a comedy skit (E.g. Full Frontal, University Twits, etc.)

Week 14 & 15 - Produce Final Projects - These will span two weeks, and one lab only produces one set, due to IU Wellness Day. In a single lab session you could produce one or two. How many you produce is up to your lab and the complexities of the project.
