Making markers

Alternate track exercise:

In this exercise you'll create both alternate audio and video tracks, and make a simple menu that has buttons targeting the different tracks.

Part 1 - preparing assets with FCP

  • Open FCP. You should have two tracks of video and corresponding audio. (Make it at least 1 minute or so.)
  • Create some named markers. Be sure to create both chapter AND compression markers.
  • Remember to have black at the beginning and end of your sequence.
  • Set an IN point in the black at the beginning and an OUT point in the black at the end. Be sure not to change these when you export!

Part 2 - Exporting using Compressor

  • Turn off one of your video tracks and the corresponding pair of audio tracks.
  • Export with Compressor using CBR (Fast encode). (Pay attention to the file names and locations.)
  • Turn on your other video track and corresponding pair of audio tracks.
  • Export again with Compressor using the same CBR (Fast encode) mode. (Pay attention to the file names and locations.)

Part 3 - Creating a simple DVD project

  • Import your 4 files into DVDSP.
  • Make a single track out of your primary video and corresponding audio files.
  • In the same track, drag in the second video file. Then under the primary audio, drag in your secondary audio track.
  • Create a simple menu that has at least 1 button pointing to the primary video track. Be sure to also set the tracks's "jump when finished" command to point back to the menu.
  • Extra brownie points for making more buttons that target alternate streams and chapters.

Place the completed VIDEO_TS in your Week 10 folder.
