T454 Internet Resources Exercise - Spring 2006(10 points) DVD developers can find useful resources on the web including forums, user groups, tech data and on-line tutorials. This exercise will guide you through some good places to get DVD authoring information. Instructions: Start a new document in TextEdit or your favorite word processor. Put your name at the top. Write (or cut and paste) the questions along with your answers in the document. When you're finished, place a copy into your week 7 folder. Be sure to format it so it looks neat. There are some great discussion groups at Creative Cow. (www.creativecow.net) Go to Creative Cow. From the list of forums, select Apple DVD Studio Pro. Once you are at the DVDSP forum, make sure your view settings are set for a month. Answer the following questions (Hint: you can use Command-F to search within a web age and Command-G to search again): 1. Who are the hosts of the DVDSP forum? (Try copying & pasting these. Remember that these folks are the "experts" so they should be giving pretty good advice.) 2. How can I pull clips off of a DVD project to use in another? (Hint: Look for "Repurpose DVD") 3. Find a question that interests you and paste it and its URL below:
Go to apple's web site and click on the "Support" tab. Look under the "Get Help" and click on"Software." Look on the right hand side for the "Complete Software List" - pull down the selector and choose "DVD Studio Pro." Click on the DVD Studio Pro 4.1 Universal Update Late-Breaking News 4. List two late-breaking news items for version 4.1 (from the PDF file):
5. Check out the "Using HDV Video in Multi-Angle Projects" article. (What is the essence of what they're saying. In other words, paraphrase the main point of the article.) Follow the link to the DVD Studio Pro Discussions. Answer the following: 6. I've got a PAL FCP sequence that needs to be made into an NTSC DVD. What's the best way of doing this? (Search for "PAL to NTSC for DVD") 7. How can I add an easter egg, so that the user can play a hidden video stream? (Search for "Easter Egg". Note: there is also a link to a specific tutorial on the Ken Stone site explaining one way to do this.) 8. Find a question that interests you and paste it and its URL below:
World Wide User Groups merged into DMN (short for digital media net- not damn). Follow their "Forum List"to their forums page and take a look around. Click on the Apple DVD Studio Pro link. 9. Who is the host of the DVDSP Forum? 10. FInd any question you find remotely interesting. Paste it and its URL below:
The Editor's Bin has a few nice tutorials and forums for Post-Production professionals- though recently they seem to have embraced Avid exclusively. Go to the Editor's Bin and select the Authoring link. For #11, write down the name of any tutorial that interests you and the corresponding URL. (Personally I found the Code Lock Script tutorial worth bookmarking) 11.
Lastly, check out Ken Stone's Final Cut Pro area. In addition to an excellent collection of FCP tips, tutorials and articles, he has a great deal of DVD info as well. For #12 write down the name of any article that interests you and the corresponding URL: 12.
When you are finished don't forget to format it so it looks neat. Place a copy in your week 13 folder.
